The revolution continues
IP - including the Internet, TCP/IP, and HTML - laid the
foundations for history's greatest technical and social revolution.
Never before have people, business, and human society as a whole
evolved as rapidly as in the past 20 years - and a large part of
the reason for this lies in the IP protocol.
IP: Simple and brilliant
IP - also known as the Internet Protocol - is the mechanism
allowing millions of computers, mobile phones, and machines all
over the world to communicate quickly and easily with each other.
The small but extremely versatile protocol was invented in the U.S.
in 1974, and was first used by the U.S. department of defense.
Today, there are not many who can imagine a life without the
Internet - and that means IP.
The growth is explosive
At present, nearly all traffic on the world's computer networks
is IP packets. This means that information in the form of bits and
bytes are wrapped, sent, and received according to the rules of the
IP protocol. According to Cisco global IP traffic is growing by
almost 40% annually (CAGR), which corresponds to a doubling
approximately every 18 months. This means that everyone needs a
strong and future-proof network solution already today.
Next Generation Internet: IPv6
The explosive growth of Internet means that the world is running
out of IP addresses. The solution is IPv6, which offers an almost
infinite number of addresses, plus a number of other benefits.
GlobalConnect already supports IPv6, and we see the new protocol as
a critical part of tomorrow's Internet.
Transport, access, and peering
At Global Connect, we're focusing sharply on IP because IP is
the one technology that is able to handle all global communications
needs - from telephony to TV to the Internet, and undoubtedly soon
much more. We're focus on offering IP transport on our lightning-fast
fibre network and IP
access, ie. efficient and quick access to the Internet. Not
least we offer the free exchange (peering) of IP data between
providers, as in Content-IX.
