World Cup: The world’s biggest sports event is broadcast on GlobalConnect’s fibre network
Dato: Tuesday, 29. June, 2010
While other national football teams, are busy fighting for the
World Cup trophy in South Africa, GlobalConnect's subsidiary
GigaContent is busy supplying the technology that helps
ensure Danish football fans a top-quality World Cup experience -
including direct World Cup coverage in full HD.
As many as 53 out of a total of 64 World Cup matches will be
broadcast using GigaContent's services, delivered via
GlobalConnect's nationwide fibre network. GigaContent is Denmark's
leading supplier of fibre-based network broadcast services, i.e.
direct transmission of sound and images in HD quality via the fibre
network.
During the World Cup, GigaContent supplies the Gb connections
from Danish broadcaster TV2's studio in the Royal Danish Playhouse
in Copenhagen to the station's broadcasting facilities in Odense.
Canal9 - another TV station broadcasting 21 World Cup matches -
will also be using GigaContent's services. The TV signal from South
Africa lands at DR Byen (national TV station) in Ørestad in
Copenhagen, and a GigaContent 1 Gbps connection subsequently
forwards the images to Canal9's main facility and World Cup studio
at Østerbro in Copenhagen.
