GlobalConnect has just landed its biggest network order ever in
Germany: Germany's largest provider of broadband services via cable
- Kabel Deutschland - has chosen a backbone solution from
GlobalConnect. The new network will connect a wide range of Cable
Deutschland's North German centers with more than 1,400 kilometers
of optical fibre deployed in two geographical rings.
The fibre network will initially support a capacity of more than
300 gigabits per second, and will form a major trunk line for
Internet traffic in northern Germany. Even greater speeds are
likely to result as the need for Internet, digital HD TV and other
applications continue on a trend of strong growth.
"We are obviously very happy and proud to have secured a contract
with a new and extremely important customer. Kabel Deutschland's
new backbone supplied by GlobalConnect will provide approximately
150,000 of Cable Deutschlands customers in Northern Germany with
triple-play (ie. Internet, digital TV, and IP telephony) services,"
says Norbert Peters, sales manager for GlobalConnect in
Germany.
Kabel Deutschland has more than 11 million cable customers across
the country, and has recently renewed its focus on the marketing of
triple-play packages. Kabel Deutschland has also chosen to use
GlobalConnect's housing facilities in Hamburg. For more on Kabel
Deutschland see www.kabeldeutschland.com.
