In February GlobalConnect will be launching a groundbreaking new
service: Content-IX will allow content and service
providers to exchange data traffic - ie. to perform free peering -
with each other directly through facilities provided by
GlobalConnect. Content-IX offers a variety of technical and
economic benefits for virtually any provider of IT content and
services.
The idea behind Content-IX is simple: We will
make a switch available in one or more of our data centers across
the country. If you are a member of Content-IX you can connect to
the switch, and you are free to exchange data with any other
companies that are also connected Content-IX. Content-IX lays down
the foundation for a new business environment where IT and telecom
service providers may work together and benefit from free and open
mutual peering.
- One big benefit is that a content provider will save moeny by
not sending its IP traffic into transit, and instead may peer
directly with desired partners through Content-IX. The quality -
meaning the quality of the content service as offered to the end
user - will in many cases be improved because the access path to
the service through the network will be shorter, says Torben
Brieghel Jensen, product manager at GlobalConnect.
Savings on IP transport costs will in turn result in higher
profits for content providers, while broadband service providers -
in addition to lowered costs - will be able to offer their users a
better service quality when delivering the content, Torben Brieghel
Jensen explains.
A number of the country's largest content and broadband providers
have already joined Content-IX. During the first quarter of 2010 we
will launch a series of activities including a new website for
Content-IX, where members and other interested parties can learn
more about opportunities for peering and cooperation.
